Association Rwandaise pour le Développement Rural (ARDR) is a non-profit-organization which was established in July, 1999 by local initiatives who realized the immense problems faced by the Rwandan people as a result of the prolonged war. ARDR is a legally registered national NGO whose mission is not based on political or religious affiliations. Its mission is to advocate the indigenous initiatives to lead developmental interventions, which are accurately required to improve the welfare of the population in Rwanda. ARDR’s projects place a high degree of emphasis on community participation. ARDR’s intention is not to run the projects alone but rather to work with local population in partnership by providing moral, material and technical support. ARDR are currently implementing several projects. They are in the areas of: HIV/Aids - training in Life Skills to people living with HIV/Aids and to members of youth Anti-Aids clubs to educate them in the preventation of Aids, Capacity Building of Cooperatives - Providing support to rural cooperatives to help them develop their business, Youth Empowerment - Helping young people increase their income by providing education and support in forming Cooperatives and starting business activities, Pre-School Support - ARDR are supporting 3 Pre-Schools with provision of materials for the pupils and teachers to ensure a good standard of education. Functional Literacy Training - running courses to teach people to read and write. Vocational Training - running training courses to help people develop skills to find alternative means of making a living.
