Learning by Giving Foundation (LxG)

Founded by Doris Buffett, big sister of Billionaire and philanthropist Warren Buffett, the Learning by Giving Foundation (LxG) inspires and trains a new generation of leaders to be effective givers of their time, talent, and treasure. LxG supports accredited college courses on experiential philanthropy with real grant funds for each class to distribute to high-impact, local nonprofit organizations of their choice. Each course teaches students to understand the social and economic roles of the nonprofit sector and philanthropy, and the processes through which social change is funded and implemented across sectors. Students develop critical leadership, professional, interpersonal, and analytical skills as they carry out an effective philanthropic strategy in their local communities. In addition, community nonprofits use the revenue to impact those they serve, and colleges and universities strengthen their ties to their local communities.
