RHD Morris Home

Resources for Human Development (RHD) is a comprehensive non-profit social service organization headquartered in Philadelphia PA, since 1970. Morris Home is an eight bed residential drug and alcohol treatment program, serving members of the transgender and gender non-conforming community. It is the only program of its kind in the country. Morris Home supports trans and gender non-conforming individuals as they develop the knowledge, skills and supports necessary to promote sobriety, manage emotional and behavioral difficulties, choose and maintain safe and healthy lifestyles, and develop healthy relationships with peers, family and the community. Morris Home provides a safe, recovery-oriented environment for individuals who may be coming from “the streets”, incarceration, or from shelter programs. Services offered include: comprehensive assessment, individual and group therapy, psycho-education and relapse prevention groups. We also provide access to hormone therapy, peer support groups, as well as connections with community resources for medical care, advocacy and job placement. Additionally, we provide our members with community-based, integration-focused case management, life skills education, and linkage to educational, vocational and recreational services. Utilizing a harm reduction model, we assist members with decreasing high-risk behaviors (particularly participation in survival economies such as sex work and utilizing gray market hormones) to achieve better long-term health outcomes. We strive to create a uniquely member-driven, trauma-informed, and trans affirming environment for our members and alumni.
