Sobre Nós
We have three main learning programs, English as a Second Language (ESL)/Citizenship, Dyslexia Program and GED program. Our ESL students have come from over 14 different countries. Our Dyslexia program was launched in 2013 using $10,000 in grant money specifically to help adults who suffer from dyslexia and similar learning disabilities. Dyslexia is an inherited disorder affecting up to 1 in 5 people. It makes it difficult for them to learn to read, write and spell.
We help students in a variety of ways: learn to read, write and spell or to improve those skills; learn English; improve basic math skills; prepare for GED; prepare for the citizenship test; prepare for the written driver's test; help with filling out job applications and other forms.
All of our tutoring is done one-on-one, which significantly enhances the learning experience for both the student and the tutor. No prior teaching or tutoring experience is required. Our volunteers come from all walks of life and professions: retired, employed, banking, fine arts, education, law enforcement, journalism, accounting, healthcare, social work, and science, among others.
