Global MapAid's (GMA) primary mission is to put accurate maps of disaster relief areas into the hands of aid workers as well as returning victims as quickly as possible. Up-to-date dissemination of information on the location, severity, and nature of environmental and infrastructure damage, people in need, and resources/supplies results in improved planning. In addition delivery of urgent aid supplies, environmental mitigation and better navigation are all improved. Our maps lead to the improvement and saving of lives, as GMA experienced first-hand in New Orleans in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, as well as in Bande Aceh province following the Indian Ocean tsunami.
