Barnstable Clean Water Coalition

Our mission: Barnstable Clean Water Coalition (BCWC) works to restore and preserve clean water in Barnstable. BCWC’s mission merges science, education, technology, and environmental conservation. The focus of our mission is based on four cornerstones called E.M.M.A.:

Educate, Monitor, Mitigate and Advocate.

Educate

Engage with stakeholders to educate our diverse community about water quality issues and challenges. Stakeholders include youth; local and seasonal residents; business owners; elected representatives; and municipal decision-makers.

Monitor

Measure water quality through comprehensive, proven scientific methods to collect qualitative and quantitative data. Baseline data will provide a foundation to determine and gauge progress and success.

Mitigate

Implement and test Non-Traditional Technologies (NTT’s) to clean our water including alternative septic systems, permeable reactive barriers, water diversion gardens, shellfish propagation and natural treatment systems.

Advocate

Campaign for political will and regulatory change to address the water quality crisis. Encourage responsible community stewardship to promote healthy watersheds.
