Missão
Our mission is to increase social health, preserve neighborhood stories, and revitalize communities through documentary films and workshops.
Sobre Nós
Stoop Stories is a community organization that connects New York neighbors across generations and differences through shared stories and a celebration of stoop culture.
Americans are facing a public health crisis of loneliness, isolation, disconnection, and trauma, which is particularly high among youth and elders. Our award-winning intergenerational "Stoop Chat" series uses short docs and workshops to increase social connection between these groups.
Since April 2020, we have produced hundreds of features from families, essential workers, small business owners, activists, and artists throughout the five boroughs. New Yorkers have shared stories from their stoops, including notable natives like Black Trans activist Qween Jean on the stoop at Stonewall Inn and Holocaust survivor and novelist, Lore Segal, at her bench in Riverside Park. Since not everyone has a stoop, we like to say, "A stoop is a state of mind”; we’ve visited sidewalks, storefronts, fire escapes, NYCHA houses, the red steps in Times Square and the grand stairway of Brooklyn Borough Hall.
