During its final years as a funding institution, The Atlantic Philanthropies established a Global Fellows Program focused on the in-depth search for real solutions to global inequity. Due to its special economic, political, and social history, Cuba is a unique place to learn about and consider this topic, especially as it pertains to economic equity, race, gender, health access, and food security. Therefore, the Atlantic-Cuba Platform, housed at the Center for Democracy in the Americas (CDA) and led by its former director and founder, Sarah Stephens, works to facilitate mutual exchange between Atlantic fellows and Cuban institutions, activists, researchers, and artists in these key areas. CDA is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting a U.S. policy toward Cuba based on engagement and recognition of Cuba’s sovereignty.
