Scholars- M.O.S.E.S. is a nonprofit organization whose purpose is to tutor students of all races, religious beliefs and backgrounds in the Philadelphia community; in the areas of literacy, writing, reading and math skills. M.O.S.E.S. also helps in aiding students to prepare for high school entrance exams, college entrance exams, trade school and other areas that the student wishes to pursue. The MOSES tutoring program also provides a nutritious hot meal following the conclusion of each tutoring session.
The purpose of M.O.S.E.S. is to motivate students with their academic studies. When students are motivated they are more confident in the classroom. Boosting their confidence allows the student to perform better throughout their semester. Our students are the focus because they are the ones who are in need academically. We wish to Equip them with the tools to succeed in the areas of literacy, math, and science to prepare them for their future endeavors. Scholars are not only those students who can make straight “A’s”, but students who have made great progress in an area they were once struggling in. The goal of the M.O.S.E.S program is not only to advance students academically but also inform them of additional educational programs available to them. In order to help fulfill these goals, we have volunteer college students from Temple University and other surrounding universities who volunteer as tutors as well as other adults. Our tutors have the knowledge and drive to assist our students in the areas of their studies and awareness of other helpful academic resources.
