Hep B Free Santa Clara County

Hep B Free Santa Clara County is a countywide grassroots initiative launched by Asian Americans for Community Involvement, the Santa Clara County Public Health Department, the Asian Liver Center at Stanford University, and the AsianWeek Foundation, in conjunction with other health care providers, community-based organizations, elected officials, students, and community members. The campaign aims to address one of the major health disparities experienced by the Asian and Pacific Islander community: hepatitis B. Hepatitis B is a disease caused by infection with the hepatitis B virus (HBV), which can lead to cirrhosis of the liver, liver failure, and liver cancer.

Specifically, Hep B Free Santa Clara County seeks to mobilize community and medical stakeholders to promote awareness of hepatitis B by:

1. Building public and healthcare provider awareness about the importance of testing and vaccinating Asians and Pacific Islanders for hepatitis B;
2. Promoting routine hepatitis B testing and vaccination within the primary care setting;
3. Providing access to medical management for chronically infected individuals.
