Learning Leaders

Learning Leaders recruits, trains and supports up to 10,000 school volunteers who work with over 180,000 students in 350 schools throughout the five boroughs. Our mission is to help New York City public school students succeed by training volunteers to provide individualized instructional support and other school-based support, and by equipping parents to foster their children's educational development.

Trained and screened volunteers provide one-on-one tutoring in reading, writing, ESL, math and other academic subjects at the elementary and middle school level, as well as non-instructional aid such as general office and library assistance. Volunteers also supplement school curriculum with enrichment programs such as book clubs.

Students gain academic knowledge, but also confidence, self-determination and proof of their own potential. Volunteers treasure the opportunity to make lasting contribution to another’s life, far beyond the classroom. Teachers value a trusted partner in their classroom who gives them reliable support and assistance.
