The mission of CoNectar, a 501(c)(3) public benefit corporation, is to connect all communities to multi-sensory "flora-to-table" education, creating curricula and providing programs that demonstrate the key role pollinators play in food systems and our broader ecology.
CoNectar creates engaging "multi-sensory" programs that support deeper appreciation of the fascinating and ecologically critical world of pollinators. 80% of flowering plants are dependent upon pollinators for reproduction and it is estimated that 1 in every 3 bites of food comes from these flowering plants, including fruits, veggies, chocolate, coffee, nuts and spices. While pollinators provide essential nutritional foods for humans, the connections are not well understood.
CoNectar hosts the majority of it's classes and workshops that serve the Greater Pittsburgh area at it's gallery, teaching kitchen and maker space in Millvale PA. Participants range in age from toddlers to seniors. Children's classes are based in nature sensory "tasting" experiences, primarily with varietal honey while adult focus is on maker classes focused on bee husbandry and wellness.
