NLA's mission is three fold: • To provide, in a culturally competent, respectful and empowering manner, high quality, cost effective legal services to as many eligible consumers as possible that gives clients the best possible opportunity to achieve their reasonably achievable legal goals; • To challenge, change and improve, through litigation, policy advocacy, research and other means, institutions and rules and practices that perpetuate poverty or result in unequal opportunity for or unfair treatment of low income individuals and families; • To assist in the creation and ongoing development of low income resident-controlled institutions and institutions dedicated to the needs of the poor that will provide jobs, job training, educational resources, health care and housing opportunities accessible to low income individuals and families; and increase the power of low income persons to advocate effectively for themselves, their needs and their own solutions to problems they face in our civil society.
