Episcopal Service Corps-Maryland

ESC-MD is a member program of the Episcopal Service Corps, a network of faith based young adult volunteer year programs, and a ministry of the Episcopal Diocese of Maryland. We seek college graduates who want to give back, offer a year of service, live in community, learn more deeply who they are, and find where the world's needs/their own passions intersect. Our community is 8 young adults living in the heart of Baltimore, who want to make a difference. We offer housing, a stipend, travel and an end of year grant. We offer tools for community living and challenges with our worksite partners. Not just for Episcopalians, not just for Christians, just those who want to learn more about themselves/ God.

Visiting Intern: Baltimore International Seafarers Center Some words from the current intern : As the intern for the Baltimore International Seafarers Center my days have a lot of variation. I coordinate with the director and volunteers so we can cover a lot of different ships, and then spend the morning visiting 2 or 3 different ships that are in port anywhere from a day to a week. The ships crews come from many different countries and are usually very friendly and talkative. I spend a lot of time both on the ships visiting with crews as well as driving them in a center-owned van to and from various shopping centers around town. All sorts of wonderful interactions and conversations take place while driving crews around, and the seafarers are extremely thankful for our help in getting off their ships for a while. Willingness to "feel stupid" and creativity in trying to communicate across language barriers required.
