Sobre Nós

Founded in 1983, Aga Khan University is a unique hybrid: an institution of academic excellence that is also an agent for social development. A leading source of medical, nursing and teacher education, research and public service in the developing world, the University prepares men and women to lead change in their societies and to thrive in the global economy. AKU’s faculty, students and graduates go where the need is greatest, working in informal urban settlements, remote villages and regions where conflict or neglect has decimated basic services. A private, nonprofit institution, AKU is open to all regardless of race, religion, gender or national origin, and is especially committed to enhancing opportunities for women. A truly international institution, it has campuses and teaching sites in six countries: Pakistan, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Afghanistan and the United Kingdom. The University is part of the Aga Khan Development Network, one of the world’s largest and most respected private international development organizations, with 80,000 employees.
