    Sobre Nós

UNABU (Umuryango Nyarwanda w’Abagore Bafite Ubumuga), the Rwandan Organization of Women with Disabilities, was established in 2004 by 14 women with disabilities and is registered with the Rwanda Governance Board (RGB) under certificate No. 06/RGB/NGO/2017 (updated March 14, 2017). As the sole organization dedicated to representing women and girls with disabilities in Rwanda, UNABU operates nationwide from its headquarters in Kigali City, Kicukiro District, KK617St, with a strong presence in 15 districts.

Our mission is to promote gender equality and eliminate barriers preventing women with disabilities (WWDs) from fully participating in society. Key focus areas include gender-based violence (GBV) prevention, socio-economic empowerment, advocacy for access to justice, inclusive climate change strategies, sexual and reproductive health rights (SRHR), and young girls’ leadership. Guided by values of good governance, participation, sustainability, transparency, rights-based approaches, and excellence, UNABU has positively impacted over 17,000 WWDs organized into 478 self-advocacy groups.
