Sobre Nós

Who are we?

Daraja Rescue Project is a CBO (Community Based Organization) created in 1998 by a group of kenyan students who were concerned about the street children problem.

There are around 120,000 street children in Kenya and 70,000 in Nairobi completely excluded by the society. These children survive by begging, prostitution, or the most degrading activities (garbage collection for instance).

Daraja means “bridge” in Kiswahili. Indeed, our aim is to build a “bridge” between the street children and the normal society. We are taking care of more than 150 children from 6 to 18 years, trying to find long term and adequate solutions like giving them educational and professional skills. After they are through with us, they become self-reliant and independent people who constitute good citizenry.
