San Gabriel Mountains Heritage Association

San Gabriel Mountains Heritage Associationis a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to conservation education. Through a participating agreement with the U.S. Forest Service, we carry out our mission by providing programs for schools, scouts, and families at two Forest Service educational facilities. Our volunteers also staff front counters at two visitor information centers, and help with the maintenance of exhibits and educational materials.

A Program Manager coordinates our day-to-day programs, but our volunteers comprise the lifeblood of our organization. Managed by an unpaid board of directors, we form a cross section of our local communities: retired educators, business people, artisans, AmeriCorps members, and student interns. The uniting factor for all of us is a deep appreciation of our local mountain ecosystems and the belief that education advances the cause of preservation
