Our mission is to accelerate social change

The Engine Room helps activists, organisations, and other social change agents make the most of data and technology to increase their impact.

We are a non-profit organisation ourselves, and our international team is made up of experienced and committed practitioners. Since 2011, we have supported more than 200 organisations, big and small, from every corner of the globe.

Technology and data have the potential to dramatically accelerate the impact of any group or organisation that promotes equality, justice, human rights, good governance and accountability.

We aim to:

• Increase impact by supporting you in making informed technology and data decisions
• Support the effective use of data and technology for people’s empowerment
• Cut down on wasteful costs in civil society’s adoption of technology and data

Here’s what we do

It’s unnecessary and unrealistic for every organisation to have in-house technical capacity. But we believe everyone should have the capacity to consider and manage their own strategies.

We directly support you in building strategic understanding of data and technology and can also complete special high impact projects.

We convene people in communities that harness emerging ideas and connect you with leading practitioners through online and offline events.

We share our research about the latest tools and methods as a contribution to the global conversation about how to work for social change in the digital age.

As an organisation we’re structured to be responsive, agile and global. All our support is driven by demand, meaning we apply our expertise to real world challenges rather than prescribing off-the-shelf solutions.

Because we’re not tied to a particular social change sector, we bring new perspectives and ideas to every project. We pride ourselves on smart, original and effective solutions that deliver big impact.
