Oakland Catholic Worker

  • Sobre Nós

The Oakland Catholic Worker invites you to join with us in service, advocacy, community and solidarity with homeless, undocumented immigrants and their children, who have fled extreme violence, oppression and poverty in Mexico and Central America.

Located in the heart of Oakland, California’s immigrant and refugee community, the Oakland Catholic Worker provides transitional shelter and comprehensive support services to empower our immgirant families on their path to self-sufficiency. These supports include referals to social service/legal assistance, medical/psychological help, education, basic literacy/ESL, women’s leadership groups, and job training and placement. Staff and guests also advocate for justice for the immigrant community.

Rooted in the mission of Dorothy Day, the Oakland Catholic Worker is more than a “job” or a social service orgnization. Staff live side by side with our immigrant families, sharing their humanity, different cultures and spiritualities. Our daily life together challenges, changes and transforms us as we create community together and discover how much we belong to each other.

The Oakland Catholic Worker invites you to be a partner with us in our mission of accompanying immgrant families. Those with Spanish language proficiency are highly encouraged to apply. Terms and types of service are flexible. Staff receive room and board, stipends for living expenses and medical care.
