Boost! West Oakland (formerly known as Lafayette School Mentoring Project) provides individualized tutoring, mentoring, and enrichment activities for approximately 100 children per year at Lafayette Elementary School, a public school in West Oakland. For 14 years Boost! has been serving students in West Oakland, one of the Bay Area’s most underserved neighborhoods. Residents of West Oakland struggle with very high poverty rates, low levels of education, and high rates of violent crime. Boost! addresses these needs by matching students with individual tutor/mentors who work with them on academic and social/emotional issues throughout the year.
