Jewish Food Society

Jewish Food Society is a non-profit organization that works to preserve and celebrate Jewish culinary heritage from around the world in order to increase awareness and deepen connections to Jewish life.

Since its founding in 2017, Jewish Food Society (JFS) has effectively used food to deeply engage young people who may not be connected to Jewish life and community in any other way. It is guided by the belief that sharing Jewish recipes and the stories behind them naturally leads to broader, more meaningful connections to Judaism and Jewish culture.

In a moment when antisemitism and division threaten to isolate and silence us, JFS’s work tells a different story — one filled with joy, pride and resilience — and creates opportunities for community gathering and learning.

JFS is building the largest archive of Jewish family recipes and the stories behind them in the world. You can also explore many of these stories and traditions in JFS’s best-selling book “The Jewish Holiday Table: A World of Recipes, Traditions & Stories to Celebrate All Year Long.”

JFS brings this research to life through creative public programs such as storytelling and tasting events, cooking demonstrations, educational panels, and a new annual flagship event, The Great Nosh. This massive public picnic responds to the urgent need in a post October 7 world to take control of our narrative, and offer a safe space and joyous platform for Jewish engagement and pride.

JFS amplifies its work through a range of media channels, offering multiple touchpoints in audience members’ daily lives: short-form videos and robust social media activity, a highly rated storytelling podcast, and a bi-weekly newsletter. Each piece of content reveals a unique tradition or custom, a slice Jewish community history, or a meaningful holiday practice. They open avenues for engagement and opportunities for cross-generational conversations.
