Remote Transport

Every woman should have the chance to give birth in a safe and clean place. But thousands of women in Lesotho don't. Remote Transport is working to change that.  Our mission is to reduce the number of women and babies dying in childbirth by removing barriers to hospital care. 

Remote Transport provides free hospital transport to expectant mothers. We work in the villages of Mokhotlong district, in Lesotho's rural highlands, where poverty is deeply rooted. The mountainous terrain and poor infrastructure means that people can walk up to 5 hours before reaching the nearest clinic. When women fail to receive proper care during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum, both they and their babies are at higher risk of complications or death. We are working to overcome the main barriers to safe childbirth by providing free transport and access to hospital care. 

We are a not-for-profit team of former volunteers & residents of Lesotho who are passionate about making a contribution to the health of women and their babies.  We started Remote Transport in 2017 after living in Lesotho and witnessing the devastating number of women and babies dying from complications of childbearing.
