City Wildlife
Missão
City Wildlife protects and advocates for wildlife and wildlife habitat through rehabilitation for release, public education, and community engagement.
Sobre Nós
City Wildlife is the first and only wildlife rehabilitation center in the District of Columbia, an area that is surprisingly rich in wildlife and natural habitat. We opened in 2013 and treat from 1,700-2,000 sick, injured or orphaned animals each year with the goal of releasing these animals back to the wild. We handle most native species except bear, deer and certain rabies vector species, and we also accept House Sparrows, starlings, and pigeons. Our center is well equipped with state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment, indoor and outdoor housing, and has five full-time employees, including a wildlife veterinarian. City Wildlife’s foundational beliefs include humane care of all patients, respect for the wildness of animals, the protection of wildlife and wildlife habitat, and the importance of public education. We enjoy an excellent reputation in and strong support of our community. Our citizen science, research, and outreach programs have received wide acclaim in the city and in the local and national press. Our advocacy efforts for migratory birds, urban waterfowl, and victims of rodenticide poisoning have led to significant changes in the District that support wild animal populations. City Wildlife offers a supportive environment where staff can share, learn, empathize, and support each other through this vitally important work.
