Afghanistan Legal Education Project

Sobre Nós

Founded in 2007, the Afghanistan Legal Education Project (ALEP) at Stanford Law School is dedicated to developing innovative legal curricula to help Afghanistan’s universities train the next generation of lawyers and leaders.

In 2007-08, ALEP developed an introductory textbook on the laws of Afghanistan based on Afghanistan’s 2004 Constitution and current legal codes. It is the first legal textbook published on Afghanistan’s post-2004 legal framework. The textbook is the foundation of the first Legal Studies class at the American University of Afghanistan (AUAF).

In 2008-09, ALEP published a second version of the introductory textbook based on faculty and student input and drafted two new textbooks on Afghan commercial law and Afghan criminal law. The textbooks will serve as the basis for two new courses offered at AUAF during the spring semester.

ALEP will continue to publish textbooks and other teaching materials for free distribution to AUAF and the larger Afghan legal market.
