Foster Youth Rising

Foster Youth Rising (formerly Friends of the San Francisco Independent Living Skills Program) is a nonprofit organization, working in partnership with current and former to make sure that individuals leaving the foster care system have the support they need to succeed in living successfully, specifically related to higher education..

Foster Youth Rising (FYR) helps fill the gaps in funding for emancipating foster youth by providing educational scholarships, housing and basic needs grants, and other assistance to youth (ages 17-26).

Imagine yourself transitioning to college with no familial support. This lack of support is normal for foster youth leaving the system. We have provided things such as plane tickets for youth who had no money to get to college, removal of braces for foster youth that were no longer eligible for state-sponsored assistance, furniture for college and their kids, and many other things!
