Compass AmeriCorps is a program managed by Literacy Pittsburgh and funded through a grant from PennSERVE, the Governor's Office of Citizen Service, which encourages and supports civic engagement in the Commonwealth.
Compass AmeriCorps places full-time AmeriCorps members in organizations where they have the opportunity to provide wrap-around social services support to refugees and immigrants in the Pittsburgh region. Compass AmeriCorps members primarily focus on two key priority areas: increasing employability (through job placement services, English as Second Language instruction, jobs skills development, and/or reducing barriers to employment), and assisting clients in accessing health services.
Members serve a minimum of 1700 hours over 11 months. They also participate in semi-monthly professional development, collaborate on designing community service projects, lead trainings for their corpsmates, and serve on member-created committees.
