Neighborhood Housing Services of Birmingham, Inc. (NHSB) was founded in 1970 with a mission to stabilize urban neighborhoods in the city of Birmingham and surrounding areas by offering programs and services that help individuals and families achieve financial empowerment. NHSB operates a HomeOwnership Center, which provides foreclosure prevention counseling, homebuyer education, financial education and credit counseling. It is a certified HUD housing counseling agency. Additionally, NHSB is a charter member of NeighborWorks America and is a City of Birmingham Community Housing Development Organization. NHSB operates affordable rental apartments and rehabilitates homes for sale to homebuyers.
