UCP Wheels for Humanity Indonesia, or UCP Roda Untuk Kemanusiaan (UCPRUK), provides increased self-sufficiency, mobility, education, empowerment and advocacy for, and on behalf of, people with disabilities throughout Indonesia. UCPRUK is an Indonesian Yayasan that operates in partnership with an international NGO, UCP Wheels for Humanity (UCPWFH). UCPWFH has been providing wheelchairs worldwide for over 16 years. As part of UCP of Los Angeles, Ventura and Santa Barbara, UCP Wheels for Humanity is focused on the quality of work provided internationally and the development of groundbreaking and progressive programs.

UCPRUK addresses the lack of appropriate wheelchairs and other mobility devices in Indonesia, taking into account the complex support system required to provide wheelchairs responsibly and sustainably. By approaching disability services from a number of different angles, we work to raise the quality of life for people with disabilities and their family members dynamically.

UCPRUK’s programs:

• Manufacture and assemble affordable, quality wheelchairs and mobility devices to ensure quality & appropriate products are available locally
• Develop local capacities in international standards of wheelchair provision to develop wheelchair distribution and service centers
• Encourage participation in adaptive sports to engage people with disabilities within their communities
• Advocate on behalf of the disabled population and raise visibility of disability issues

In all our programs, we emphasize the service needed to properly fit each wheelchair to each individual, because we recognize that a wheelchair fit to the users needs can improve breathing, posture and pain management, as well as reduce the risk of fatal sores and increased deformities. Beyond the immediate health benefits, wheelchair users also enjoy increased independence and social participation, and an overall better quality of life.

Our system builds capacity for wheelchair provision throughout Indonesia by working with existing hospitals, associations, clinics and other disability focused institutions. Partners who successfully complete our training courses become part of our network of service distribution centers and are authorized to provide our wheelchairs and other equipment. In developing this network of providers, we can ensure that quality wheelchair service will be available for years to come, and we can better enable our clients to live happy, productive lives.
