WES Health System, a 501 (c) (3) organization is the parent company for several non-profit and for-profit organizations serving the residents of Philadelphia. WES Health System and its subsidiary companies were named after Dr. Warren E. Smith, a prominent African American psychiatrist who was committed to providing quality behavioral healthcare to the underserved. WES, founded in 1992 has experienced significant growth during the last five years and has created an organizational structure to meet the needs of current and future growth. • WES Health System – Parent company. • WES Health Centers – Provides Mental Health, Mental Retardation, Primary Care, and Substance Abuse services primarily for adults living in North and Northwest Philadelphia. • WES Horizons – Children Services provides Mental Health, Behavioral Health Rehabilitation Services, Mental Retardation, and Early Intervention services for children and their families. The Commercial Division provides behavioral health services for members of managed care plans and private insurers. • WES Ventures – An incubator company that develops for- profit companies, which seeks to employ WES consumers. • WES Management Services – Provides management and facilities support services to WES companies and other small providers. WHAT IS WES • WES is the largest African American outpatient healthcare provider in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. • WES provides healthcare services to both the commercial and public healthcare markets. • WES is committed to meeting the behavioral health, social service, and medical needs of a culturally diverse population of children, adults, families, and the elderly. The population served is predominantly African-American (90%), Hispanic (5%), Asian (3%), and other (2%). • A significant number of WES consumers' incomes fall below the poverty income level and receive public and/or medical assistance. Many of the communities served by WES include neighborhoods with some of the highest percentages of adults, children, and elderly living in poverty as compared to other communities within Philadelphia. • WES employs a diverse staff of approximately 550 professionals of which 80% are African-American. Professional staff specialties, degrees, and licenses includes: M.D.s, Psychiatrists, Psychologists, L.C.S.W.s, L.S.W.s, L.P.C.s, M.S.W.s, Masters Level Therapists, Social Workers, Clinicians, Teachers. • WES is committed to providing high quality services to all its patients. To this end, the Agency has received full State accreditation for all its programs since 1996.
