Maidu Summit Consortium & Conservancy (MSC) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to the preservation and promotion of Native American heritage, culture, and land of the Mountain Maidu. The organization originates from nine Mountain Maidu groups, tribes, nonprofits, and grassroots organizations located in Plumas and Lassen Counties in Northern California.

During a historic moment in 2013, MSC acquired rights to the Humbug Valley, an area formerly owned and managed by Maidu ancestors. Humbug Valley is now recognized as Maidu land, reconnecting Maidu people with their ancestry, as well as ensuring land and site protection.

We work in two primary ways:

Consortium: As a consortium, MSC builds bridges between the key Maidu organizations in the region; identifies collaboration opportunities between members; shares best practices among member organizations; and supports its nine member organizations financially.

Conservancy: As a conservancy, MSC re-acquires traditional land, stewards land through the use of traditional ecological knowledge, and engages and educates the community.
