Sobre Nós

The Methodist Home (TMH), a non-profit retirement community with independent, assisted living, nursing and rehabilitation services has proudly served the needs of senior adults for more than one hundred years.

Our History TMH first opened its doors in April 1889 with the mission to “provide for the aged members of the Methodist Episcopal Church of the Baltimore Conference in the District of Columbia a comfortable residence with board, clothing, employment, skillful medical and other necessary attendance and the accustomed means of grace.” The original facility then located on 12th and N Streets, N.E., consisted of four lots and an 18-room house; the number of residents was seven.

Since that time, TMH has seen much development and growth. Increasing numbers of residents required two moves to larger accommodations, once in 1901 and then again in 1926 to the present location on Connecticut Avenue, NW. In 1961, a new wing was built to house additional residents. The Methodist Home branched out into the community as well. Strong ties were established to neighboring religious, civic and service organizations like Sibley Hospital whose founder, William J. Sibley, was a Methodist Home resident. Through time, TMH has also kept pace with the changing needs of senior adults. For 2001, TMH has added additional assisted living suites, a new healthcare center, and physical therapy services.

Now embracing seniors with all faiths, TMH still upholds its original mission to provide a full, rich experience of comfort, security and independence at an affordable monthly fee.

At TMH of the District of Columbia we take time to sit down with you to have a cup of tea or simply to chat. That’s our promise because the well being of our residents is our primary concern.
