The SFMA Market Association was formed to set up a support system for farmers and food processors experiencing hardship due to any natural or unnatural disasters that may negatively impact agricultural production. The Farm Relief Fund is open to all farmers and fishers who normally sell at SFMA's Ballard, Madrona, and Wallingford markets. We fundraise throughout the year by selling merchandise at the markets, and sponsoring community events in Seattle & the surrounding area. We are expanding our mission to include supporting local horticultural education programs and diversifying the equity of food to fit the diversity of our communities. We participate in the fundraising & funding horticultural program's infrastructure. We have been able to fund farmers who have been delayed by the pandemic and others who have suffered loss of crops due to the extreme weather conditions, heat, and flooding, that the region has endured over the last 12 months. Developing and diversified volunteer base is more than a goal; it's one of the most essential components to keeping the wheels turning. We are excited to grow our team and be together, sharing our gifts in community.
