The purpose of Shea Tree Center (Shea Tree) is to help people heal themselves in order to heal the world.
Shea Tree was founded by Lisa Bennett Matkin to share the healing practices that she used to transform her own life after struggling to heal from trauma and addiction. Lisa wanted to share these tools with others to support Shea Tree’s mission and purpose of healing the world.
The curriculum is based on Lisa’s 30 years of yoga and meditation instruction, 35 years of Twelve Step recovery involvement, and 11 years working with non-profit groups that support indigenous peoples and their causes.
Since the start of the pandemic, Shea Tree has offered donation-based yoga classes and workshops online to anyone in need of healing.
Once it is safe to gather in person, Shea Tree will be offering more onsite programming. Lisa will be welcoming guests to her personal home, which sits on land backed up to the Appalachian Trail in the Hudson Highlands, so others can immerse themselves in nature.
Shea Tree firmly believes that healing should be accessible to all.
