Alameda County Bar Association

Our Mission: To promote excellence in the legal profession and to facilitate equal access to justice.

The Alameda County Bar Association (ACBA) is a voluntary bar association, established in 1877, with a membership of 1,500 lawyers, judges, law students, and legal associates. As a professional resource for lawyers, the Bar provides educational programs, practice-building opportunities, networking and social events, as well as leadership development opportunities for its members. The ACBA administers numerous programs and activities to benefit attorneys and the community including our Court Appointed Attorneys Program, our Lawyer Referral Service, and the Volunteer Legal Services Corporation (VLSC).

VLSC is the pro bono arm of the Alameda County Bar Association and is the largest provider of pro bono legal services in Alameda County.  VLSC provides free direct legal assistance to Alameda County’s low-income population by mobilizing volunteer attorneys to provide pro bono service. 

Each year, more than 400 volunteers provide nearly $1 million in pro bono legal service through pro per advice clinics and pro bono case placements. More than eleven hundred low-income people in Alameda County received legal assistance through VLSC last year.
