The MetroWest Career Center at SMOC

SMOC is a nonprofit organization founded in 1965 pursuant to Title II of the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964 as part of the nation’s “War on Poverty.” SMOC’s mission is to organize, represent and advocate for low-income people in MetroWest Massachusetts; to attack and eradicate the causes of poverty; to provide direct services to low-income people designed to improve their quality of life; and to foster self-sufficiency through housing and economic learning. SMOC offers a multitude of wrap around services for homeless, low-income, and disabled adults through our facility in downtown Framingham, MA. Services include Shelters, Sober Housing, Low & Moderate Housing, Head Start, Day Care, WIC, Elderly Nutrition, Fuel Assistance, Weatherization Assistance, Addiction Treatment, Mental Health Counseling and Women’s Violence Counseling. A pivotal services toward our clients achieving self-sufficiency are the employment readiness services offered at the drop-in computer equipped MetroWest Career Center, located on the 2nd floor.

The MetroWest Career Center in a drop-in, employment resource for SMOC clients. The Center is open from 9am to 4 pm. The Center hosts a 10-station computer lab, and extensive job posting board, a phone, copy machine, and fax for client job applications. The Center hosts a monthly series job readiness, job skills, and job search workshops. The Center hosts a GED pro gram, Young Parents Program and employment programs for youth.
