The Akshaya Patra Foundation in Odisha

The Akshaya Patra Foundation is an NGO feeding millions of underserved children in India. It works towards eliminating two critical concerns – hunger and malnutrition in India – by implementing its school lunch programme in Government and Government-aided schools. Carrying out the world’s largest feeding programme, Akshaya Patra aims to not only fight hunger with nutritious meals but also bring children to school.

In Odisha, the Foundation reaches out to 1,80,140 children in 1,840 schools through four kitchens, based on the centralised and decentralised kitchen models.

Puri: Akshaya Patra’s first kitchen in the state, presently feeding 49,078 children in 661 schools, was established at Puri in June 2006.

Nayagarh: The decentralised kitchen at Nayagarh, currently feeding 23,976 children in 342 schools, was inaugurated in March 2007.

Rourkela: The Foundation launched its operations in Rourkela in November 2013, with a centralised kitchen that currently feeds 48,999 children in 420 schools.

Bhubaneswar: The newest addition to Akshaya Patra’s reach in Odisha is its centralised kitchen at Bhubaneswar, which at the moment feeds 58,087 children in 417 schools.
