Kenna Eco Diving

Mission

At Kenna Eco Diving our mission is to gather data to influence the level of protection afforded to keystone species like the seagrass Posidonia oceanica. This seagrass performs many services and has been called "the lungs of the Mediterranean" because of its role in oxygen production and acting as a huge carbon sink. It is a feeding, breeding and nursery area for hundreds of species, including European seahorses.

Projects

• Seahorse Project: researching the European seahorses: Hippocampus hippocampus and Hippocampus guttulatus.

• Silmar Project: studying key Mediterranean species and monitoring trends in coastal biodiversity at two research stations on the coast of Catalunya, Spain.

• Sea Observers: collecting photo-data for scientists at Barcelona University.

All our research is carried out by volunteer divers working as citizen scientists. This offers work experience for marine biology students and affords volunteering scuba divers the chance to give something back to the oceans via marine conservation projects.
