United Voices of Literacy, Inc. - Uniting Voices through Literacy Education. We are a nonprofit dedicated to empowering students and families through the joy of reading. Our core value is simple yet powerful: literacy opens doors. We believe every student deserves the chance to feel confident, capable, and excited to learn. Through our Readers Are Leaders program, we partner with schools, community organizations, and volunteers to serve children who may struggle with reading or feel disconnected in the classroom. By using storytelling, mentorship, and creative engagement, we help students not only strengthen their reading skills but also discover that learning can be meaningful, relevant, and fun. Sobre Nós
As a volunteer with UVOLI, you will assist students in grades 3-7 who enroll in our program to improve reading skills. Volunteers will:
- Support Young Readers: Work one-on-one and in small groups to help students build reading fluency, confidence, and comprehension.
- Bring Stories to Life: Use expressive reading, dramatic storytelling, and creativity to make books engaging and relevant.
- Encourage Confidence: Provide positive feedback and celebrate student progress, helping them see themselves as capable readers.
- Be a Mentor: Model curiosity, kindness, and persistence, inspiring students to embrace learning.
- Assist with Programs: Participate in and support Readers Are Leaders sessions and related activities.
- Collaborate with Team: Work alongside UVOL staff, fellow volunteers, and teachers to create a supportive learning environment.
Volunteering with UVOL and the Readers Are Leaders program is more than just giving your time — it’s bringing stories to life. Many students approach school with hesitation, yet deep down they yearn to learn and belong. Through storytelling, reading becomes more than words on a page — it becomes an experience where students see themselves inside the story, making learning relevant, exciting, and alive before their eyes. As a volunteer, you help unlock that joy, guiding students as they discover confidence, step into their own voice, and learn to truly enjoy reading. Watching a student soar because a story finally reached them — that is the gift you get to witness.
