OUR MISSION: The mission of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation is to find a cure for diabetes and its complications through the support of research.

The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation was formed in 1970 by parents of children with diabetes. They understood that managing type1 diabetes was not the answer. Insulin is not a cure. Type 1 diabetes strikes children and adults suddenly, making them insulin dependent for life and placing them at risk of developing devastating complications. Nearly 24 million Americans have diabetes, as many as 3 million of whom may have type 1, the most severe form of the disease. You can't outgrow juvenile diabetes. The only way out is a cure.

JDRF is the world's leading nongovernmental funder of diabetes research. Since its founding, JDRF has awarded more than $1.4 billion to diabetes research. More than 85 percent of JDRF's expenditures directly support research and research-related education. In FY09, JDRF funded more than 101 million to research that funded centers, grants, and fellowships in 22 countries.

We are dedicated to finding a cure for juvenile diabetes.

Houston Gulf Coast Chapter

Families living with type 1 diabetes, whether recently-diagnosed or experiencing an ongoing challenge, can find support from our multi-faceted Outreach Program. From our Bag of Hope for newly-diagnosed children, to our trained family mentors, from our Mom's Nights Out to our School Advisory Tool Kits, we offer families living with diabetes the tools they need to meet the challenges of life with diabetes successfully at every stage of life.

The Houston Gulf Coast Chapter supports four fundraising events and an active family support program. Our chapter hosts a Walk to Cure Diabetes in Houston each fall, and Kids Walks throughout the school year. The Golf Classic is held at the end of winter, and the Promise Ball is held each spring. Our Ride to Cure program hosts 5 rides around the country from July to November. Please browse through our website to learn more about our chapter.
