My name is Hindolo Pokawa; I founded a small, grassroots 501(c) 3 non-profit organization in Minnesota called Sierra Leone Foundation for New Democracy (SLFND), to engage others in the US and in Africa in establishing a sustainable-based preschool in rural farming communities in Sierra Leone. The preschool-building projects, both through hands-on construction work in Sierra Leone and through fundraising have achieved greater impact for the long-term sustainability for about 250 children in our first village in Sierra Leone. (www.slfnd.org). especially with gardening/farming to replace the failing slash and burn tradition thereby increasing food production to feed children twice daily- four days a week, and to provide critical literacy, that would support cognitive skills, fine motor skills, social skills and developmental skills for children ages 2-5.
