It conducts its healthcare practice, business, education and innovation with justice, integrity and respect for the dignity of each person. Our mission is to expand and enhance healthcare at the end-of-life for all individuals and their families living throughout Long Island, and to educate the community about hospice services. Good Shepherd Hospice helps patients and their families live each day fully, focusing on quality of life, control of symptoms and the things that matter to them the most.Good Shepherd Hospice is accessible to all individuals, regardless of race, color, religion, lifestyle or economic status.

Hospice is a philosophy of care, not a specific place. Care is most often given in the patient’s or family member’s home, although it may take place in a hospital, skilled nursing facility or a facility dedicated to hospice services. Care is focused on patient comfort in an environment that affirms life and dignity, while providing additional support to family members. It includes a whole network of professionals and services coordinated by a team of caregivers working in conjunction with the patient’s primary care physician. Hospice services are reimbursed by Medicare, Medicaid and most health insurance plans for both home care and in-patient care. We rely on donations and memorial gifts from organizations and individuals to continue to provide care to those in our communities with little or no economic resources.
