Fossil Free California

Fossil Free California is a small grassroots nonprofit focused on ending financial support for climate-damaging fossil fuels and promoting a just transition to a low-carbon economy.

Powered by over 8,300 members statewide, our grassroots campaigns target California’s two mega-pension funds, CalSTRS and CalPERS. We use a variety of tactics to promote divesting the funds’ holdings from fossil fuels, and investing instead in a just transition to a clean energy economy that supports workers and communities. We also run a Move Your Money campaign that helps individuals and organizations align their banking and investments with their values. Our legislative team tracks and supports California state legislation that affects our mission. 

Our small staff supports the work of our volunteer-driven teams, in collaboration with the Executive Team and the volunteer Coordinating Council. We often work in partnership with allied groups, including youth climate strike organizations and large NGO’s. We are currently active members of the Last Chance Alliance and the Stop the Money Pipeline coalition. Working with us, you will work with kind, dedicated, passionate people who get things done, and help you to do your best, too.
