The Sexual Assault Counseling and Information Service (SACIS) was established by a group of four faculty members at Eastern Illinois University in August of 1977. The first office was established in 1987. Prior to that time, all business was conducted out of members’ homes. Our main office is located inside the Human Services building on 18th street in Charleston, and our counseling office is located 2 minutes down the road at 1505 18th St Suite 2, Charleston, IL 61920. Annual events hosted by SACIS include Walk a Mile in Her Shoes, Take Back the Day 5k Walk/Run, and ROAR (Rock Out Against Rape).
Volunteers have the opportunity to help with events/fundraising, public education, office coverage, medical advocacy, and the hotline.
*Volunteers must be 40-hour trained in order to help with public education, office coverage, medical advocacy, and the hotline*
The next 40-hour training occurs in October. If you are unable to attend a session and wish to become a trained volunteer, please contact Stephanie Anderson at volunteer@sacis.org or 217-348-5033.
