“Organized crime and corruption doesn’t stop at national borders, so why should journalists?” - OCCRP

OCCRP is a consortium of non-profit investigative centers, journalists and news organizations that teamed up in 2006 to do transnational investigative reporting focusing on the difficult areas of organized crime. There are 12 centers or media outlets in the network along with dozens more journalists working in another 10 countries from Europe to Central Asia. OCCRP also works with international non-profit partners like the Arab Reporters for Investigative Journalism (ARIJ), the Forum for African Investigative Reporters (FAIR), the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) at the Center for Public Integrity and reporters and investigative centers in the United States, Mexico, Latin America, Europe, and Asia.

OCCRP's mission is to help the readers understand how organized crime and corruption works. It shows the real face of crime figures and the corrupt politicians who empower them. It exposes the links between organized crime and government, businesses and civil society organizations. It provides resources, training and tools to regional reporters and helps non-profit, investigative centers build capacity.

Since 2006, the organization has won numerous international prizes for its work including the 2011 Daniel Pearl Award for transnational reporting for its story on how offshore registration agents sell turn-key money laundering and tax evasion schemes. The story led to the arrest of a regional company registration agent. OCCRP reporters and editors have also won the Global Shining Light Award for reporting under duress, the Online Journalism Award (with the Center for Investigative Reporting in Bosnia), the Tom Renner Award for Crime Reporitng (with the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists) and many others.

OCCRP also operates the Investigative Dashboard, a resource tool for reporters wordwide and with its partner the International Center for Journalism is working on a building an investigative collaborative platform to help reporters work across borders.
