Sobre Nós

Founded in May 2018, the Community Education Commission (CEC) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to eliminating barriers that Detroit families face in accessing high-quality education in Detroit. The CEC works with diverse stakeholders across the city to develop innovative, critical resources that address common challenges that prevent Detroit families from accessing schools, such as lack of access to transportation, afterschool care, and transparent information. The CEC Board members are appointed by the Mayor of Detroit and include top leaders from Detroit Public Schools Community District, the charter school sector, labor unions, philanthropic organizations, and the business community.

GOAL Line Overview

As on of its flagship initiatives, the CEC oversees the GOAL Line, a well-planned and organized enrichment program that provides students with much needed care and programming during latch-key hours. Detroit students in grades Kindergarten through 8th grade who attend a designated GOAL Line partner school are eligible to participate.

GOAL Line afterschool programming is run out of the Northwest Activities Center (NWAC, 18100 Meyers, Detroit). NWAC is a 150,000 square feet multi-purpose community center with a gymnasium, health club, swimming pool, theater, banquet facilities, local satellite bank, and rental/lease spaces.
