Capital City Bearcats

Sobre Nós

About Us:

Mission: The Capital City Bearcats are a non - profit organization based in central Austin, Texas. The organization was established in March of 2006 by a group of individuals with a vision of community, family and athletic excellence. A vision to teach any child who participates in Capital City Bearcat Programs the fundamentals of Flag Football, Tackle Football, Cheerleading, Basketball, Track, and Volleyball (starting Winter 2017). We strive to:

Build Character!

Create Leaders!

Develop Champions!

Program: Flag Football, Tackle Football, Cheerleading, Basketball, Track, Volleyball, Camps, Training, and Clinics. Activities are held at local schools within the communities we serve and local neighborhood recreation centers. Programs are spirited, recreational, competitive and instructional; while maintaining good sportsmanship in a positive and healthy environment. Participants come from all ethnic and economic levels in greater Austin metropolitan area. Through our family centered approach we provide multiple touch points to engage the entire family in their child's athletic experience. In addition to providing quality volunteer coaches and a safe environment to play, Capital City Bearcats incorporates innovative strategies to broaden the reach of the program. One key approach is to provide parents and guardians with key sports injury prevention and nutrition information in our newsletters. Additionally, we create a culture of academic success and ask our athletes and their parents to provide our coaches with status reports on academic progress and copies of their report cards. Our athlete's heath, wellness and academic success is just as important, if not more important than how they perform on the field, sideline or court.

Cause: Capital City Bearcats focuses on family. We understand that the definition of the family unit varies form household to household, and often time involves a single mother. Since the inception of the organization, it has been a priority to provide affordable and quality youth sports services to the community. These program characteristics are especially important to a single parent household. Over the past several years there has been an increased need to address the lack of role models in the lives of young men and women without a farther in the home. Research shows that children of single-parent homes are more than twice as likely to commit suicide, and that children living in female headed families with no spouse present have a poverty rate of 47.6 percent, over 4 times the rate in married-couple families. These statistics are startling, and serve as a driving force to ensure our organization provides an environment that supports and encourages single parents and children. Each year the Board of Directors assesses the previous year to identify how to better serve the families on our programs and the community overall. This process assist with ensuring we are being responsive to not only our Bearcat family, but to the community as a whole.
