As a nonprofit, Veterans Intellectual Property's mission is to provide pro bono patenting services to veterans, active duty members, and military dependents. We also provide legal advice on other forms of intellectual property protection, including copyrights and trademarks. Intellectual Property law is a tool that protects artists from people who might steal their work and use it to benefit themselves. There are different intellectual property laws in different countries and many artists are unaware of their rights under the law.

The most common form of intellectual property protection is the copyright. When an artist sets out to create a work, he or she invents new ideas and characters. The creation is their intellectual property and it is not just any one’s right to use it.

The creator can protect their intellectual property by taking specific steps, including registering the creation with the government and keeping a record of who has access to it in case of an infringement.
