National Center on Protection Orders and Full Faith & Credit

Sobre Nós

The National Center on Protection Orders and Full Faith & Credit (NCPOFFC) was created in 1995 and operates under a cooperative agreement between the Battered Women's Justice Project (BWJP) and the U.S. Department of Justice's Office on Violence Against Women. NCPOFFC was created to promote and facilitate inter-jurisdictional enforcement of civil and criminal protection orders in state, tribal, and territorial courts pursuant to (18 U.S.C. 2265) the Full Faith and Credit (FFC) provision of the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA).

NCPOFFC's mission is to promote and facilitate implementation of full faith and credit in all states, tribes and territories by raising public awareness of the statute's requirement and by providing problem-solving technical assistance and support to individuals and jurisdictions. This office also provides support and guidance on the federal Gun Control Act (18 U.S.C. 922) as it relates to domestic violence as well as state gun prohibitions as they apply in domestic violence situations. In furtherance of its mission, NCPOFFC has developed a number of materials designed to help jurisdictions and professionals comply with the FFC provision and gun prohibitions, as well as effectively assist survivors in inter-jurisdictional cases.
