The Dialogue Arts Project (DAP) partners with organizations to create energizing training experiences in order to help students and leaders collaborate and communicate more effectively across difference.

DAP uses the arts as a means of generating dialogue across lines of social identity. DAP delivers workshop services and facilitated dialogue to a range of clients including university faculty, teachers-in-training, student leadership groups, and employees of Fortune 500 companies and non-profit organizations. DAP’s leading-edge workshops use the arts as a shared entry point into critical discourses around identity to increase awareness of self and social diversity.

Description of the Opportunity

Dialogue Arts Project is seeking a responsible, creative and self-motivated intern interested in social identity, human rights, and diversity. The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational skills, an enthusiasm for learning and working with others, and the ability to brainstorm and contribute ideas to the organization. DAP will work with the intern to find projects that align with the intern’s skillset and career interests.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

- Assist in coordinating itineraries, transportation, and logistic support for workshops, facilitator training sessions, and or fundraising events

- Maintain stimulating dialogue on social media platforms such as Facebook, Tumblr, etc. about current events relevant to social identity

- Document workshops and events (photos, videos, etc.), as well as testimonials with workshop participants

- Communicate with donors, artists, and facilitators

Qualifications:

- Currently enrolled in an undergraduate university or college

- A self-starter with the ability to work independently and collaboratively, manage multiple, complex tasks, and adjust priorities under tight deadlines

- Proficient in Microsoft Office, Google Apps, social media platforms, and internet research

- Excellent written, oral, interpersonal communication, and organizational skills

- Passion for issues related to civil rights and social identity (race, gender, sexuality, social class, etc.)

Opportunity Details:

Job Title: Intern

Start Date: This opportunity is from November 1, 2013 through June of 2014, with option to extend

Primary Location: Manhattan and Brooklyn, New York

Time Commitment: 3-7 hours per week; flexible scheduling

Travel: Travel will be minimal; there may be opportunities to travel to select clients

Payment: This is an unpaid internship, but we will be willing to coordinate with colleges and universities for credit.
